SWEETWATER CONSTRUCTION CORP.  EMPLOYEES AND SUBCONTRACTORS CONTRIBUTE FOR HOLIDAY CARE PACKAGES TO EMPLOYEE’S UNIT IN IRAQ

CRANBURY, N.J. – Dec. 1, 2008 – Sweetwater Construction Corp., a recognized leader in New Jersey construction, management and general contracting, is celebrating the holidays by sending holiday care packages to soldiers in Iraq led by a Sweetwater employee who is stationed there with the Army Reserves.

The holiday shipment was sent over Thanksgiving weekend to a platoon out of Teaneck, N. J., led by 2nd Lt. Patrick Moore, Sweetwater’s director of environmental health and safety, who is currently deployed with the New Jersey National Guard, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Moore oversees about 50 soldiers.

Sweetwater employees and subcontractors contributed nearly $4,000 to the program -- a far greater amount than expected -- which will be divided, with a third going for treats and necessities, a third to purchase cameras and portable printers and the remainder, at Moore’s request, to the Family Readiness Group for Foxtrot Company of the 250th BSB (Brigade Support Battalion) in the New Jersey National Guard, which helps soldiers’ families deal with emergencies at home. The holiday care program was created and coordinated by Sweetwater’s marketing coordinator, Paula Attanasio.

“Our employees and subcontractors pride themselves on teamwork, and their commitment to one another is evident in their generous contributions to Patrick and his unit,” said Ron Witt Sr., Sweetwater’s founder and president. “We know how much it means to them that we care, and we wanted to do something for them. We are grateful to Patrick and his unit for all they are doing to serve our country.”

Also included in the packages will be toys and “cookies” for the military work dogs. Dogs are an important part of the corporate culture at Sweetwater, where employees are encouraged to bring their dogs to work.

In addition to protecting his country, Moore works hard to keep employees and subcontractors safe on the job as Sweetwater’s director of environmental health and safety. He is a lifelong safety advocate, holding a degree in occupational health and safety management; is a designated construction health and safety technologist; and he has been recognized for safety programs and practices in the workplace.

Moore represents the third generation of safety experts in his family. His family also has a strong history of military service dating back to the Pequot War in 1636-1637. After high school, Moore joined the Marine Corps. In 2005, after establishing a career and a family, he joined the Army National Guard. He lives in Union County with his wife and children.

He is currently on military leave from Sweetwater, but stays in touch with colleagues via e-mail. In an e-mail about the holiday care packages, he said he was “floored” by their generosity. He said the money for the Family Readiness Group, in particular, will help relieve the stress soldiers feel about their home situations. His wife, JeanMichele, runs the support group for the 120 soldiers in his company.

Moore recently nominated Witt, Sweetwater’s president, for an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Award as a “patriotic employer.” The ESGR is a Department of Defense organization that recognizes employers for policies and practices that are supportive of employees’ participation in the National Guard and Reserve, which comprise approximately 48 percent of the nation’s total available military manpower.
